Worked example

Example: ingredients $20 + two hours of active work at $25/hour ($50) + a $5 box + $10 of other order costs = $85 entered cost. At a 35% target gross margin, $85 ÷ 0.65 = about $130.7692, or $130.77 rounded up to cents. A $30 deposit would leave $100.77. These are example inputs, not a standard cake price.

The preview never inserts these sample amounts into your quote. Use only your actual order details and a price you have reviewed.

Describe the cake before the price

Record the size or serving count, flavor, filling, decoration, and anything included with the cake. If a design depends on customer approval or an image reference, say so in the notes rather than implying an unconfirmed design is final. Confirm ingredients and allergen handling separately when relevant.

Make the total and deposit unambiguous

Enter one final total in USD and a deposit no larger than that total. The preview calculates the remaining balance; a deposit requested is not a deposit received. State when the balance is due in the notes if you have agreed that date with the customer.

Check delivery, tax and changes

Specify pickup or delivery details and a quote-valid-until date if you use one. Confirm whether delivery, applicable tax, payment fees, extra decorations, or a change in servings are included in the final price. If a customer changes a confirmed order, agree on any revised amount before replacing an accepted quote.

Common questions

Is this an invoice?

No. It is a proposed quote, not proof that a customer ordered or paid. Record the accepted terms and any payment separately.

Does the template calculate tax or delivery?

No. Include applicable charges in your final price and explain them in the notes. The cake calculator is a cost-based starting point, not a tax or local-market price checker.
